HEBER C. KIMBALL GRIST MILL
At the time of its construction, the Heber C. Kimball grist mill in Bountiful, Utah, was the largest mill in the territory. It was built in 1853 by the prominent Church leader in response to a growing need to mill corn, wheat and other grains harvested by area farmers.The three-story adobe structure was built on the corner of the current streets of Mill Creek and Orchard Drive. It stood for nearly 40 years until 1892. Mill stones were driven by a wheel powered by water diverted from a nearby creek.
All that remains of the mill today is its south rock wall, as well as mill stones that have been excavated over the years by archaeological efforts. A small replica constructed of foundation stones commemorates the spot. A local historical committee is working to preserve the site and make it into a historic park.
