SPANISH FORK -- A Utah County Jail inmate died Saturday morning after apparently strangling himself with a bed sheet, the sheriff's office said.

Robert Hallock, 34, of American Fork, had been booked into jail Friday for investigation of sexual abuse, said Utah County Sheriff's Lt. Ron Fernstedt. Hallock was seen around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, but jail authorities became suspicious when he didn't appear at breakfast.Hallock was found about 7:40 a.m. Jail authorities attempted to revive him by CPR, but it had no effect, Fernstedt said. The inmate was transported to Mountain View Hospital in Payson, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff's officials said the matter is under investigation, but they suspect it was suicide. The state medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy, Fernstedt said.
