Our pure and precious angel, Mandy Leigh Martell, returned home to our Heavenly Father unexpectedly on Monday, October 4, 1999. She walked through this life as though she had never quite let go of her Heavenly Father's hand, always living and loving as Christ did. She has influenced so many people in her life as well as in her passing.
Showing her excitement and enthusiasm to begin her sojourn on earth, Mandy was born six weeks early on December 1, 1977 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Steven V. and Heidi E. Martell. Her parents feel it was a privilege and blessing to have her in their home. Being the oldest of five children, Mandy set the example for the rest of her family to follow. As evidenced by her life, Mandy had a great love for the Savior and all those she knew. She was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived worthy to receive the blessings of the temple.After moving to South Jordan, Mandy met the love of her life, Michael Wayne Beckstead, at church while they were both in their sophomore year at Bingham High School. Theirs was a match made in heaven. On October 6, 1999, through the blessings of the temple, their friendship and love was sealed for eternity.
Mandy attended and graduated from Bingham High School and Seminary. She also attended Weber State University. Her church callings included Beehive class president, Laurel class president, Primary teacher, Nursery leader, and Beehive advisor.
Mandy is survived by her parents; her sister, Amy; her brothers, Adam, Aaron, and Spencer; her eternal companion, Mike; grandparents, Carol Laffin, Salt Lake City; Gerald Gunderson, Hogarty, Wisconsin; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 9, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the South Jordan Utah River Stake Chapel, 1500 West 11400 So. Friends may call Friday, October 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the same location and at the Stake Center, one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been established for Mandy at any branch of Wells Fargo Bank.
