John Edward Merrihew, fondly remembered as "The Farmer", age 72, passed away quietly
November 4, 1999, of natural causes, following a long series of strokes.John was born April 1, 1927. Son of Jesse Compton and Ruth Green Merrihew. Married Darleen Merrill, September 29, 1949. Later divorced. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
In addition to mink ranching, John diligently farmed the last farm in the Salt Lake Valley. He loved his farms and many people will remember climbing on Farmer John's huge pumpkin piles and buying raspberries, tomatoes, pickling cukes, and corn from his road side stands. His first and last love were his chickens and fighting cocks.
He is survived by five children, Jorgett Little, Zona (Michael) Keyes, John Kim (Suzan) Merrihew, Paul (Mitzy) Merrihew and Heather (Craig) Brown, and one sister Ruth Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved little girl, Jennifer Dee, whom we know is with him now.
A family graveside service was held on Sat., November 6, 1999 at Mountain View Memorial
