Louis "Lou" Joseph Uzelac age 84, died Nov. 6, 1999 while recovering from an illness.
He was born Sept. 10, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the eldest son of six children born to Joseph and Helen Mageras Uzelac, long time residents of Murray. Lou worked in Magna as a mechanic. During World War II he worked at the arms plant in Salt Lake and also in Washington State. Lou met and married his first wife Ruth Watson, his student in June of 1944, while he was a flight instructor. Lou has had a life long love of flying airplanes. His wife Ruth died in 1974. He married Barbara Perrine Bowden in April of 1976. Lou worked many years as a mechanic and then as service manager for Freed Motor Co. He then established Independent Auto Damage Appraisers which he owned until the 70s. After a short retirement, Lou worked for Hasco Inc. for approximately 15 years. Lou had many talents, he designed and built his own home in Holladay. He had a great talent to fix things and he shared that talent with his neighbors and friends. Lou also built many things from scratch.Lou is survived by his wife, Barbara; her daughter, Elizabeth Anne Bowden; daughters, Susan Brooke Mageras, and Allyson Drew Uzelac, both of Las Vegas; a step daughter; granddaughters, Angela and Amanda Mageras; great-granddaughter, Ashley Mageras; sisters, Kay (Chet) Fassio, Ellen (Mike) Falvo, Georgia (Breeze) Motta; brother, Joe G. (Maurine) Uzelac; and sister-in-law, Elma Uzelac. Preceded in death by a son, Jimmy; and a brother, Nick.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday November 10, 1999, 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 E. Spring Lane. Family & friends may call at the church Tuesday 7 to 8 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 8 p.m. Interment
Murray City Cemetery. Directors, Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary. In lieu of flowers family suggests donations to the Retired Catholic Priests Fund or the Utah Humane Society in Lou's memory.
