RICHFIELD -- A Web site has been developed by the Fishlake National Forest, and officials have announced locations for purchase of personal Christmas tree permits.

The Web site is(www.fishlake.r4.fs.fed.us). Communications specialist Linda Jackson urged a visit to the site to learn more about the Fishlake Forest. "Of particular interest is The State of the Forest," she said."In it is our vision for the future along with discussions on ecosystem management, partnerships, recreation and much more."

Christmas tree permits are available at the Richfield, Loa, Fillmore and Beaver ranger districts during regular Forest Service office hours and at some businesses for after hours and weekend purchases. The cost is $5 and permits must be obtained in person. Most tree species may be cut except for ponderosa pine.

Businesses selling tree permits are Don's Amoco in Salina, Mondays through Saturdays, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Lin's Market in Richfield, 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week; Flying U Country Store in Joseph, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week; Albertson's Food & Drug Store in Richfield, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays; and Beaver Sport-Pawn in Beaver, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.

Cutting regulations vary in each district. Englemann Spruce and Blue Spruce may not be cut on the Richfield Ranger District. More information may be obtained by calling 435-896-9233. Trees may not be cut in the Fishlake Basin Recreation Area, including Johnson Valley, from the Forest Service boundary on the west to Zedd's Meadow on the east. Fillmore Ranger District permits are available at the Delta City office as well as the district office in Fillmore. The district suggests cutting in Dry Creek, Whiskey Creek, John Williams Canyon, Maple Hollow, Chalk Creek, Meadow Creek, Cove Fort, Willow Creek and Wild Goose Canyon. Beaver Ranger District permits are available at Piute County Sheriff's office in Junction.

Blue Spruce may not be cut and cutting of any species is prohibited in the Merchant Valley summer homes area or along the visible timbered edge of U-153. For more information, call 435-438-2436.
