WASHINGTON -- A New York toymaker is recalling about 2,400 wooden toys because they include small parts that young children might choke on.

The "Selecta" brand toys, which are produced by Kathe Kruse Doll Co. of Troy, N.Y., have been banned because of the choking risk they present, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.Toys in the "Selecta" brand line include three sorter toys that have shapes cut out of the top for inserting various wooden pieces, including two small balls, and toy that has a chute in which small balls are placed.

The "Quatrino" sorter toy has eight sides and a sticker on one side with the picture of a bee and the words "with beeswax" written in various languages.

The "Favola" sorter toy resembles a medieval castle -- it has four sides and cylindrical turrets, and it has the bee sticker on the bottom.

The "Sorting Box" sorter toy has four sides and a sticker that reads "Selecta Spieizeug" and "Made in Germany."

The "Kugelbaun" ball chute has four chutes attached at angles so the two small balls can descend and sound bells. A wooden painted clown is attached to the center of the top chute and the "Selecta" brand logo appears on the front of the toy's base.

Toy stores and web sites sold these toys from January 1997 through November 1999 for $30 to $80.
