Floyd Asa Fowler, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday morning, February 26, 1999, at his home in St. George.
He was born January 13, 1916 in Silver City, Utah, to H. Asa Fowler and Esther Nielsen Fowler. He graduated from South high School in Salt Lake City and served in the Spanish American Mission for the LDS Church from 1937-193. He was employed as an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years. Floyd married Margaret Knowles on January 13, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions, including High Priest leadership, as a faithful home teacher, a temple worker in the Salt Lake and St. George LDS Temples, and in the Genealogical German extraction program. Floyd and Margaret served a full time mission for the LDS Church from 1983-1984. They moved from Salt Lake City to St. George in 1995.Floyd was gifted in gardening and woodworking and spent many hours working in his vegetable garden and wood shop. He was very giving and shared his bounty with family, friends, and neighbors. His children and grandchildren loved the many wooden toys he made for them.
Floyd is survived by his wife Margaret, and his five children: F. Alan Fowler, St. George; Victor L. Fowler (Carol), Salt Lake City; Karl E. Fowler (Alana), Pleasant Grove; Kristine Arrhenius (Anders), Orem; and Raymond K. Fowler (Cathy), St. George. He is also survived by his sisters Eudora Clements, Elizabeth Coolbear, Naomi Barnhart; and brothers Mark A. Fowler and Melvin K. Fowler; 22 grandchildren (including two who are serving LDS missions in Bolivia and Sweden), and eight great-grandchildren. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jesse and Louise, and brother, Evan.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 1,1999, at the Lake Hills Mortuary, 10055 So. State St., Sandy, Utah, at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held one hour prior for family and friends to visit.
