Dwayne Roloson came up with a perfect impersonation of Dominik Hasek.
Playing for the injured Hasek, Roloson needed to make just 15 saves to post his second career shutout as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Vancouver Canucks 2-0 Sunday night."Our defense and our forwards do a lot of shot-blocking," said Roloson, who made a pair of saves on Vancouver winger Todd Bertuzzi late in the game to preserve the shutout. "We got away from it in the last couple of games and we started talking about doing it in our meetings."
Hasek, who missed his fifth consecutive start since suffering a groin injury, had recorded the last 34 shutouts by a Buffalo goalie.
Of course, most goalies look like Hasek to the weak-shooting Canucks, who mustered only one shot on goal in the first period and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
Randy Cunneyworth scored for Buffalo early in the second period, and Michal Grosek iced the victory with an empty-net goal in the game's final minute.
Buffalo snapped a three-game winless streak by winning its third straight over Vancouver.
BLUES 3, BLACKHAWKS 1: In Chicago, Pierre Turgeon scored two power-play goals in the first period to power St. Louis. In the last eight games, Turgeon has scored six goals and assisted on four.
Scott Young assisted on both of Turgeon's goals and has 16 points in his last 17 games (seven goals and nine assists).
RANGERS 6, FLYERS 5: In New York, Petr Nedved had three goals and an assist in the Rangers' victory over Philadelphia.
Nedved broke a 5-5 tie with a power-play goal with 6:28 left as the Rangers came back to win after the Flyers got consecutive goals by Daymond Langkow, John LeClair and Mikael Renberg to tie the game in the third period.
CAPITALS 4, PENGUINS 3: In Washington, Andrei Nikolishin beat two defenders and stretched goaltender Tom Barrasso flat on the ice to score the winning goal with 7:29 to play.
STARS 1, KINGS 0: In Dallas, Joe Nieuwendyk scored in the game's first minute and Ed Belfour made 18 saves as the Stars remained unbeaten in their last 16 games against Los Angeles.
DEVILS 4, COYOTES 1: In East Rutherford, N.J., Petr Sykora and Jason Arnott scored goals to lead New Jersey past struggling Phoenix. Denis Pederson and Brian Rolston also scored for the Devils, who extended their unbeaten streak to three.
