HATCHER SUSPENDED: Dallas defenseman Derian Hatcher was suspended Saturday by the NHL for seven games, including the Stars' first five playoff contests, for hitting Phoenix center Jeremy Roenick in the head.

Hatcher's playoff suspension is the longest in league history, surpassing the four games that Adam Graves received in the 1992 postseason.

Hatcher broke Roenick's jaw during the first period of Wednesday's game when he left his feet and hit Roenick with his arm and shoulder.

CONDE DE GODO: Unseeded Karim Alami of Morocco beat defending champion Todd Martin 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals of the Conde de Godo tournament Saturday in Barcelona, Spain.

Alami served seven aces to win the match in a little over one hour and qualify for the first major final of his career.

His opponent in the title match will be Felix Mantilla, who is from Barcelona. He ousted countryman Francisco Clavet 6-3, 6-2.

Baseball

MCILVAINE CHARGED FOR NUDE SUNBATHING: Joe McIlvaine, former general manager of the New York Mets and now an assistant GM for the Minnesota Twins, was charged with a misdemeanor for nude sunbathing on a public beach in Jensen Beach, Fla.

McIlvaine, 51, was arrested last Monday after Martin County sheriff's deputies answered several calls complaining about a man lying on his stomach on the beach without any clothes on.

"It looks like he had to have known better," said Janell Atlas, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office. "He knew he wasn't supposed to be naked.

"He was lying there buck naked," Atlas said. "When the deputy approached him, he started to put his shorts back on."

McIlvaine was released on $1,000 bail.

VIKING DB ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT: Minnesota Vikings free safety Orlando Thomas was arrested Friday night after his wife accused him of assaulting her, Crowley, La., authorities said Saturday.

Thomas, 26, was booked on a charge of domestic violence after his arrest at 11:30 p.m., according to a press release issued by Acadia Parish Sheriff Kenneth Goss.
