The library shooting was a rare case where the criminal actually bought the gun legally (if indeed he did). Recent gun laws, such as the concealed carry law, could help stop the incidents such as the one on Thursday. If someone had a legal concealed weapon permit and was carrying a gun, this person could have helped stop the crime. People need to remember that if we ban all weapons then we leave ourselves open to criminals who will still get their weapons legally or not.
Taking away the rights of the law-abiding citizen only takes away the rights of the law-abiding citizen. The government needs to take responsibility for controlling criminal activity by making the punishments stronger for those who decide to break the laws. We have numerous laws on the books that could work if they were only enforced the way that they were intended to be. We as Utah citizens need not panic but must force our government officials, who work for us, to do their job!
