Editor's note: David Wilcox will perform at the Tower Theatre, 925 E. 900 South, on Wednesday, April 28. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. DAVID WILCOX; "Underneath" (Vanguard). ***
David Wilcox loves his moods as much as he loves music, and it's quite evident in his latest outing, "Underneath."The album is heartfelt, stripped down at times and lush at others. The music ranges from meanderings to funky acoustic bumps and grinds.
Provocative moods come through in such tunes as the introverted "Down Here," the ghostly gallop of "Spirit Wind" and the thoughtfulness of the album's title track.
And Wilcox's guitar is just as dramatic as his lyrics and singing, as evidenced during "Prisoner of War" and "All My Life."
Wilcox, who lives in North Carolina, has been to the Salt Lake area a few times, twice with the Indigo Girls and several times solo. And it's evident that his music has been inspired by poets, musicians and philosophers throughout his career.
