William Roland Preece, Jr., died at home in Midvale, Utah on March 30, 1999 following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born February 1, 1926 in Vernal, Utah, son of William R. Preece and Laura Perkins Preece. Bill attended Myton, Utah Elementary School; graduated from Roosevelt, Utah High School and the Salt Lake Area Vocational School.He married Colleen Pitt July 30, 1946 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. A man of honor and integrity, he taught by precept and example the values of devotion to God, family and country. Bill was a proud Veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy aboard the USS Yorktown in the Pacific. He gave devoted service to his church, serving in many callings.

Previous to retirement in 1991 he and his wife made their home in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Survivors: wife, Colleen, Midvale; children, Bill (Rosemary), Scottsdale, Arizona; Kathryn Vasilyev, Salt Lake City; David (Laurie), Laie, Hawaii; Margie Clark (Craig), Collegeville, Pennsylvania; Janet Gleave (Joe), Austin, Texas; 18 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; sister, Edith Nell VanDoorne (Van), El Paso, Texas. Preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rock Vasilyev.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 5, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Union Fort Sixth Ward, 7155 S. 540 East. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 S. State Sunday 6-8 p.m. and Monday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Rock Point Cemetery, Vernal, Utah, Tuesday at 10 a.m.
