The typical tree house might include such features as warped, splintery floorboards, a leaky roof, rusty nails for catching and tearing clothes and at least one large window for both planned and accidental departures. It can be used for sleepovers, war games, tea parties and hideouts and is almost always constructed in a back yard as parents consider it an eyesore.

Fortunately, the Treehouse Athletic Club, 1101 E. Draper Parkway, is a tree house of another sort: a beautifully designed fitness facility packed with state-of-the-art equipment and activities that both kids and parents can participate in and enjoy."The Treehouse Athletic Club is the largest fitness center in the State of Utah and the only fitness center offering after-school and off- track programs," says Michael Teig, a Treehouse representative.

Supplying limited bus pick-up from local schools, study areas, computers, tutoring and arts and crafts are just a few of the reasons parents will appreciate this Treehouse.

While mom and dad choose from among the more than 200 pieces of top brand equipment for their exercise program, the kids can go downstairs and take advantage of basketball, racquetball, handball, squash, volleyball, walleyball and wrestling.

Martial arts -- tae kwon do, kempo, kick boxing and American jujitsu -- as well as dancing -- jazz, funk, tap, break, swing and ballroom -- will also be taught.

The Treehouse further offers power tumbling, competition cheerleading, roller hockey, indoor soccer and rock climbing on a 30-foot-high, indoor rock wall.

Boasting a 23,000-square-foot "Cardio Theater," the Treehouse has on-sight physical therapy, a full-service day spa and salon, two indoor/outdoor swimming pools, three whirlpools, steam rooms, sauna and lockers.

Instruction at the Treehouse will be provided by 15 world champions, six national champions, a silver medalist, a four-time Olympian and two Hall of Fame inductees.

With a day-care center whose every activity is monitored by video cameras so mothers can check on their young children without leaving their own exercise program, the facility emphasizes a healthy and happy family, something Utahns will appreciate.

The Treehouse Athletic Club will open on June 1. For more information call 553-0123.
