MANTI--Donald K. Barton of Manti, Utah passed away Tuesday April 6, 1999.
He was born November 17, 1931 in Manti to Alden K. and Hazel Jessen Barton. He married Barbara Sue Larson on November 18, 1955 in the Manti Temple. They are the parents of seven children. Don was a life-long resident of Manti. He was educated in the Manti public schools and attended Snow College and Utah State University. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was active in farming and cattle ranching for his entire life and was widely recognized as a pioneer in the development of the Charolais breed of cattle. He served in various positions including Board of Directors, National Cattlemen's Association; Board of Directors, American International Charolais Association; President, Utah Charolais Association. He was named Utah Seed Stock Producer of the year in 1978. And on March 19, 1999 was inducted into the American International Charolais Association Hall of Fame ceremony in Montgomery, Alabama. He enjoyed raising thoroughbred racehorses and due to his success in horse racing around the United States he was awarded the prestigious title of "Kentucky Colonel". Don was a High Priest in the Manti 5th Ward and an active member of the LDS Church.He is survived by his wife Barbara of Manti; children Russell, Manti; Kent (Denna), Mesa, Arizona; Richard (Diana), Corpus Christi, Texas; Ann (Gary) Olson, Ephraim; Dean, Manti; Karen (James) Monroe, Provo; and Kevin (Marnette) Ephraim; 19 Grandchildren; one Great Grandchild; brothers Lee R and Bruce J. Barton, both of Manti; sisters Virginia Sudweeks, Salt Lake City; Elaine Allred, St. George; preceded in death by his parents and brother George.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 10, 1999 at 1 p.m. in the Manti Utah Stake Center located at 295 S. Main. Friends may call the Stake Center on Friday evening from 7 to 9 and on Saturday for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Manti Cemetery. Funeral directors, Buchanan Mortuary.
