Two new schools opening this fall in the Jordan School District will be named Hayden Peak Elementary and Herriman Elementary.
The Jordan School District Board of Education was unanimous in approval of the names at its meeting Tuesday. Hayden Peak Elementary is in West Jordan.Construction is nearly complete on both under the $154 million bond issue passed in May 1997 to construct seven schools. Eight schools were built with the help of the state building fund. The money also went toward renovations of existing schools and buying property for future school sites.
In August, the two elementary schools and Riverton High School will open.
Herriman Elementary School is at about 13200 S. 6000 West in Herriman. Hayden Peak Elementary School is at about 8200 S. 5200 West.
The names were chosen by students and parents with school board members casting the final vote.
