PANGUITCH -- An isolated hailstorm caused a five-car accident on I-15 Friday night, killing one woman and injuring several others.
Killed was:-- Kathleen Albert, 36, Highland, Ind.
Albert was driving south on I-15 about 4:30 p.m. when she lost control of her van and it went into the median, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Kevin Olson. Albert, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Joyce Diane Fontaines, a passenger from East Chicago, Ind., who was asleep in the back of the van, was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. She was listed in serious condition.
The other vehicles, reacting to the van, lost control and slid off the slick road, Olson said. Ambulances were called from Parowan and Beaver to assist, but all other injuries were minor, he said.
