"A Mother holds her children's hands for awhile,
their hearts forever."SYRACUSE--Our beloved wife, mother, MaMere', sister and friend, Myrna Lynn Golding Smedley, 69, passed away at home Saturday, May 8, 1999, in Syracuse with her loving family around her, after a long battle of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Lynn was the second child born to Semon Rex and Marietta Higbee Golding on January 22, 1930. She graduated from Granite High School in 1947 and continued her education at BYU. At 21 she received a mission call to the Western States. Pres. Ezra Taft Benson interviewed her and Pres. Spencer W. Kimball gave her a blessing and set her apart. While on her mission, she met Elder Paul B. Smedley who was also serving in the Western States mission. When their missions were completed, they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 5, 1953.
Lynn was an active member of the LDS Church. She held many positions throughout the years in her ward and stake. She loved many kinds of sports, hand and machine knitting, painting and reading. Her love of flowers and the beauty of her garden was her most favorite pastime of all, which she has passed on to all her children.
Mom was a loving and devoted mother, always seeking out her children's talents whether it be sports, piano, organ, violin or accordion lessons, helping them to grow, each in their own interest.
Lynn encouraged and supported Paul in his passion for singing with the Beehive Statesman Barbershop Chorus.
Those who will miss her as she leaves them behind are her husband and five children, Kevin (Jamie) Smedley, Syracuse; Kerin (Bernie) Stark, Layton; Steve (Deb) Smedley, South Weber; Stacey (Grant) Young, Syracuse; Lisa (Brett) Thomas, Layton; her grandchildren, Jackson, Derk, Ross, Jase, Skylar, Brawn, Kira, Jill, Christopher, Broxton, Tanner, Cole; and one brother, Ray Golding of Sutherland, Oregon.
Preceding her in death were Mother, Daddy, and her brother Fred.
Lynn and her family wish to extend a special thanks to Lois Caputo, Lynn's friend and caregiver over the past two years.
A special thanks to Hospice For Utah and especially Judy and Susan for their loving care and help over the past few months.
Your husband and family will miss you dearly and will await the time that we will all be together again.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at 11 a.m., Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may call Tuesday at the mortuary, 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
