Jeff Hornacek
Occupation: Utah Jazz guardPersonal: Married 13 years to Stacy Hornacek; father of three: Ryan, 10; Tyler, 8; Abby, 5. The Chicago native is seen on TV ads reading a scary story to his brood as part of an NBA literacy campaign.
On reading: "You don't think reading would be fun but once you get into it, it really is," says Hornacek, who, while on the road, is known to stay up until 3 in the morning for a real page-turner.
Greatest influence: Hornacek, who says he didn't read much as a kid, embraced the joys of curling up with a good book with the help of his wife, who aims to write children's books and keeps him amply supplied with the written word. "I'd like to say it was mainly me, but . . . she's helped influence me on how important reading is."
Family time: The Hornaceks set aside at least 30 minutes a day for reading with their children, who recently delved into "Always Wear Clean Underwear" by Marc Gellman. The Jazzman, who loves a good mystery or suspenseful drama, also likes to read stories containing a moral to his little ones.
