ST. GEORGE--Mary Lucile Lundwall, 89, died Monday, May 24, 1999 at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.
She was born October 26, 1909 in Salt Lake city, UT, to James Henry and Edna Jensen Sullivan. She married Nelson Joseph Lundwall, December 13, 1935 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, their sealing was preformed by David O. McKay.Lucile was born and raised in Salt Lake City. She lived in several cities prior to moving to California. In 1978 she and Nelson relocated to St. George. Lucile was a highly skilled secretary and had worked for the State of Utah at the Capital. She was active in the 4-H program, Girl's Clubs of America, and the PTA. Lucile was an incredible homemaker. She excelled as a seamstress. She loved making homemade soup, bread, and custard, and sharing them with the sick, as well as with shut-ins.
Lucile embraced the principal of the restored gospel and found great joy in service to others. Her favorite calling was that of visiting teacher. She was a student of the gospel, and Sunday was her favorite day. Visits from the priesthood and the sacrament were the singular highlights of her week. Lucile had served in many positions in the church, including that of Relief Society president. She enjoyed going to the temple and family history.
She loved to discuss current events and had a tremendous interest in people. Lucile had a great circle of friends. She was everyone's best friend and only saw the good in people. Utah's Dixie was a critical part of her life - she especially loved the mountains. Lucile loved her family. They returned that love and will greatly miss her.
She is survived by three sons: James (Linda) Lundwall of St. George; Mark (Jennie) Lundwall of Green Valley, UT; and John (Sheryl) Lundwall of Simi Valley, CA; a daughter, Rosemary (James) Kitchens of North Ogden, UT; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Sullivan and Edna Jones, both of St. George. She was preceded in death July 9, 1995 by her husband, Nelson, a daughter, Nancy, three brothers, Adelbert, James and Horace Sullivan, and a sister, Helen Sullivan.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 28, 1999 at 10 a.m. at the Bloomington LDS 6th Ward Chapel, 3519 Manzanita Road. Visitations will be Thursday from 7-8 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary, 300 W. St. George Blvd., and Friday 9-10 a.m. at the chapel prior to services. Interment will be in the Leeds City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 673-4221.
