Charles Colon Pledger, age 81, of Orem, died Saturday, May 1, 1999.
He was born December 14, 1917 in Marianna, Florida the son of Charles Sylvanus and Ellen Pledger. He was raised in Florida and joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1935; and then subsequently joined the U.S. Army. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII, flying the 'Hump' in the China-Burma-India Theatre.He married Hilda Parsons on July 15, 1942. After the War, he became a member of the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Hill Air Force Base for a time. He retired in 1958 with the rank of Master Sergeant, and was chief wing inspector. He then went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as an electrician. He retired after 20 years of service. Following this retirement, he and his wife moved from Utah to his hometown in Florida, and returned back to Utah in 1989. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He had a very strong faith in Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife Hilda of 56 years; a son, Dr. Charles (Lyn) Pledger of Orem; two grandsons and seven granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy, a son, John Phillip and by Johns wife, Beverly.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 1999, 12:00 Noon, at the Victory Baptist Church, 300 South 1200 West, Orem. Friends may call Tuesday evening, at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m., or Wednesday morning, at the Baptist Church, one hour prior to services. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park, Bluffdale, Utah.
