James Lowell Whitaker, born January 19, 1922, to Milton H. and Ruby Gardner Whitaker in Kanosh, Utah, died of natural causes June 12, 1999 in Orange, California. Lowell (Jim to many friends) was greatly loved by family and friends. Lowell married Darlene Grover on December 30, 1946 in the Logan Temple.

Lowell attended grammar school in Kanosh, Utah, high school in Fillmore, Utah, and graduated from the BAC (now Southern Utah College), Cedar City, Utah.Lowell served in World War II as a jet pilot for the United States Marine Corps. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1963 and pursued many business interests in California, working in industrial real estate development.

Lowell is survived by his loving wife Darlene of Orange, California; a son, Jeffery (Marla); and grandchildren Jess, Sara, jared, and Thea, all of Garderville, Nevada. He was preceded in death by brothers Lynn Spencer Whitaker and Milton Homer Whitaker. Also surviving are a sister, Louise Snow, of Salt Lake City, and a brother, Robert Reed Whitaker of Orland, California, and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Saddleback Chapel 220 E. Main St., Tustin, California, Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, Newport and Skylark Streets, Orange, California, with viewing one hour prior thereto. An additional viewing will be held at Rogers & Tayler Mortuary, Tremonton, Utah, on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial at East Garland Cemetery.
