Obituary: Harold Turner Beckstead

Harold Turner (Hal) Beckstead, 72, Kennewick, WA, passed away of cancer in Life Care Center of Kennewick on June 11, 1999.

He was born in Riverton, Utah on Dec. 24, 1926 to Harold and Edna Beckstead. He served in the U.S. Navy during and after World War II. Upon leaving the Navy, he lived in Richmond, CA, and worked for Standard Oil for several years before returning to Utah, where he spent most of his life. He was a purchasing agent for Utah Technical Colleges until his retirement. He moved to Weiser, ID, where he lived nine years before moving to Kennewick three years ago with a very special companion, Irene Shepherd. He was a long-time member of the FOE, VFW, American Legion, and a lifetime member of the DAV. He was a past post commander of the American Legion and chairman of the Salt Lake City-County United Veterans Council.He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara; brother, Alyn D.; sisters, Ruth Beckstead and June Keddington. He is survived by daughter, Traci J., San Francisco, CA; brothers, Robert W. (Lois), Weiser, ID; Barde H. (Karen), Woodruff, UT; C. Kent (Patty), St. George, UT; sisters, Ferrel Parry, Midvale, UT, Jeanne Vanderpool (Bob), Henderson, NV; Luanne Sharp (Dick), and Rea Boatright (Jim), Mesquite, NV.

Graveside services will be Saturday, June 19, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the South Jordan City Cemetery, 10650 South 1055 West. Friends may call Saturday 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State.
