Glenn Russell Handy, 87, passed away on Monday, May 31, 1999, of natural causes.

Glenn was born January 18, 1912, in Los Angeles, CA., to William Joseph Handy and Birdie Alice Pearl. At the age of 18 he heard the gospel message and instantly responded, being baptized in December, 1930, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been the central focus of his life since then, serving 11 Stake and full-time missions during his life.On August 24, 1932, he married Muriel Smith and they had two sons; Lawrence and Leonard. On November 4, 1942, he married Mildred Tenney and they had three sons and three daughters; Gary, David, Lanigene, Lei Anne, Keith, and Deborah. Glenn served in the Army in 1942-1943.

For much of his life, Glenn was a building contractor. In 1971, Glenn and Mildred went to Japan to work for the LDS Church Building Department. Glenn served as the Asian Area Construction Supervisor, coordinating all of the building projects in 13 countries. When he retired, he and Mildred went to Israel, where Glenn served as a counselor in the District Presidency to Ivan J. Barrett. The Gospel was his life and he was never afraid to tell others about it. While serving a mission in South Africa, in 1982, his beloved wife, Mildred, became ill and passed away on August 11, 1982, while serving a full-time mission.

On November 13, 1982, he married Dorothy R. Winter. This marriage instantly provided him with another family; Dorothy's daughter Diane and many grandchildren. He has greatly loved them and they have taken great care of him. Together with Dorothy, Glenn served a full-time mission Alaska in 1983-84. After their mission they served as Temple Workers in the Los Angeles Temple from 1985-1998.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Chatsworth, CA; nine children: Lawrence (Joye) of Park City, UT; Leonard (Sandra) of Layton, UT; Gary (Ana) of San Diego, CA; David (Toni) of Orem, UT; Lanigene Green (Arnold) of Orem, UT; Lei Anne Ward (Elgin) of Orem, UT; Keith (Carma) of Littleton, CO; Deborah Morris (Rod) of West Jordan, UT; Dianne Buttner (Tom) of Palm Springs, CA; 46 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday June 4th, 1999, at 10 a.m. in the Northridge 13th Ward Chapel, 1674 North 200 West Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the ward building. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery. Services under the direction of Sundber-Olpin Mortuary.
