Direction: Located 30 miles south of Nephi off I-15 to main marina. Can also travel about 25 miles south from Levan on U-28 to Painted Rock area.
Description: This is a large reservoir, about 10,000 surface acres, located in a desert setting with few trees and lots of sagebrush.Fish: Walleye, yellow perch, trout, bass
What works: In the spring, when the walleye are spawning, use lures and jigs. As the water warms and the fish go deeper, try bottom bouncers or spinners tipped with a night crawler. Also try jigging with Gitzits, plastic worms or Mr. Twisters. In shallow water, use 1/16 oz. jig heads; in deeper water 3/8 to 1/2 oz. jig heads to get deeper.
Details: In the spring, fish shallow. At the start of summer, walleye are found in 5 to 15 feet of water. Perch are found in shallows. For walleye, look for areas along shore where waves are breaking. Fishing for walleye is always better when water is rough. Fish slowly for walleye. Fish tend to be resting on the bottom. Jig for perch.
Notes: This is excellent fishing spot in the spring and early summer for walleye. The limit for walleye is six fish, but only one can be more than 20 inches. The problem, sometimes, is trying to catch fish under 20 inches. There are two ramps -- one at the state park and a less improved ramp at Painted Rock. State park offers improved camping with modern restrooms. Painted Rock is less developed, but does have restrooms. Also a popular boating water.
