Queen Elizabeth dined in a public restaurant last week, the first such meal during her reign of almost 50 years. The queen, Prince Philip and Prince Charles ate at the Compleat Angler in Marlow, as guests of Hungarian President Arpad Goncz and his wife.

The Mirror of London reported that no other guests were allowed in the restaurant. Restaurant staff were subject to security checks, and dogs were employed to check out a church across the road. The meal proceeded without incident. -- Leah Garchik
