Carleson Cadillac, a Salt Lake business whose roots go back more than 60 years, said Friday it has been acquired by the Jerry Seiner Dealerships.

Price of the deal was not announced. The sale to Seiner will become effective within 60 days."With the changes that have occurred in the automotive industry over the past few years, it became apparent to me that this transaction would best meet the future needs of my customers and my employees," said owner Robert A. Carleson.

"The Jerry Seiner organization has the necessary assets to take the company to the next level in market performance by bringing three brands of automobiles within one central Salt Lake City location."

Carleson said the Cadillac business will continue in its current location at 1070 S. Main until a new Jerry Seiner complex is completed at 1450 S. 500 West. That facility will house Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Chevrolet franchises.

Seiner said he is proud to add the Cadillac marque to his organization. "We are proud to add a dedicated Cadillac team to our staff of employees focused on selling General Motors products in Salt Lake City," he said, noting that Carleson Cadillac has an owner base of some 4,000 customers locally.

The Carleson family has been in the auto business since 1938 when Fred A. Carleson, Robert's uncle, became a Pontiac/Cadillac dealer. Robert's father, Robert E. Carleson, bought the Cadillac business from Fred in 1965 and moved it to its present location.
