UTAH STATE PRISON -- Parole board officials have agreed that Cody Judy has done his time for threatening a church leader with a bogus bomb six years ago.
In a decision released Tuesday, the state Board of Pardons and Parole granted Judy, 33, a release date of Aug. 3, 1999.Judy pleaded for release in February at a hearing before the board, citing completion of mental health counseling and his progress in college courses.
Back in 1993, Judy stormed an LDS Church fireside at the BYU Marriott Center in Provo. In front of 17,000 people, Judy held up a briefcase he said held a bomb and threatened President Howard Hunter, then president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Judy wanted the leader to read a three-page letter proclaiming him as prophet of the church. Instead, he was subdued by audience members.
He subsequently wound up in prison serving up to 15 years on the charge of aggravated burglary.
