Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Richard James Sutherland, age 79, returned to our Heavenly Father July 23, 1999, with his family by his side, after a long & valiant battle with heart disease.

Richard was born February 13, 1920, in Logan Utah, the son of James John and Anna Marie Anderson Sutherland. He married Ruth Christianson on May 22, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He served his country beginning with the Civilian Conservation Corps, in 1938, and culminating with the Normandy invasion and the final battles of World War II in France and Central Europe. He also served, with his wife, in numerous church callings including a full-time mission and as temple workers in the Salt Lake Temple. Richard was a kind and loving individual who was respected and admired by all who knew him. He dedicated his life to the service of others and was always the first to assist in any way. His passing saddens our hearts and leaves a great void in our lives.Survivors include his wife, Ruth Sutherland, of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Melba (Ed) Cook, Thelma (Darrell) Lindsey; children, Peg (Steve) Goff, Rick (Maureen) Sutherland, Pamela Sutherland, Randy (Dorothy) Sutherland; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
