ROY -- Iomega Corp. announced it has filed suit in federal court against California-based Castlewood Systems Inc., accusing the competitor of patent infringement, trademark infringement and unfair competition.

Castlewood, a relatively new company, recently launched a new "Orb" line of high-capacity removable storage drives and disks that competes with Iomega's Zip and Jaz drives.Roy-based Iomega is seeking monetary damages as well as an injunction, claiming Castlewood is using registered trademarks without authorization and is selling products that embody Iomega's patented inventions.

Iomega claims infringement of two patents and misuse of its Iomega, Zip and Jaz registered trademarks.

In a written response released Thursday, Castlewood said it has not had the opportunity to review the issues raised in Iomega's lawsuit, but "we are confident that we are competing lawfully with Iomega."
