Franklin Stewart Harris, Jr. died August 13, 1999 in St. George, Utah.

He was born in Logan, UT, 24 May, 1912, to Franklin Stewart Harris and Frankie Estella Spilsbury. He was educated in schools of Logan, UT, the Brigham Young University, Provo, UT, and received a Ph.D. in Physics from California Institute of Technology.He was affiliated with the University of British Columbia, the University of Utah, Aerospace Corporation of El Segundo, CA, and Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, and retired to Rockville, UT in 1978. He was active in numerous international scientific organizations. He participated in many community activities.

In Boy Scouts of America, he was an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver. He served in the German-Austrian Mission and the European Mission Office for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a contributing editor to the Improvement Era for 31 years and wrote two books on the Book of Mormon. He was a High Priest in the Springdale Ward. He married Maurine Steed in the Salt Lake Temple.

He is survived by his wife; a brother, Chauncy D. Harris, Chicago, Il; sisters, Mrs. Ralph W. Jenson (Helen), Spanish Fork, UT, Mrs. Vernon D. Jensen (Leah), Pocatello, ID, and Mrs. Ralph O. Bradley (Midred), Salt Lake City, UT; children, Frank S. Harris III (Terry), Hurricane, UT, Mrs. A. Gerald Michels (JoAnne), Encino, CA, Bernie M. Harris (Elaine), Rockville, UT, Michael G. Harris (Nancy) and Morgan J. Harris (Colleen), Hurricane, UT, Wen L. Harris, Drain, OR, Della Carlisle, Holladay, UT, Chauncy S. Harris, Eau Claire, WI, Linda Petty, Kearns, UT, Mark D. Harris, Rockville, UT, Mrs. Ted W. Dutton (Diana), Hurricane, UT; 61 grandchildren; and 36 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 1999, 11 a.m., at the Springdale LDS Ward chapel. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Spilsbury and Beard Mortuary, 2500 W. State Street, Hurricane, Utah, and Wednesday morning at the Springdale Ward chapel from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery with grave dedication at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the University of Utah John Huntsman Cancer Center. Funeral arrangements have been made under the direction of Spilsbury and Beard Mortuary, Hurricane, Utah.
