On Monday, August 16, 1999, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Julia Fern Gregory Hess, of Farmington, Utah, passed away at her home after a long and debilitating illness.
She was born Sept 9, 1915, in Farmington to Elijah B. and Julia Tree Gregory. She married Milton John Hess, Jr. also of Farmington on February 24, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.She was preceded in death by her firstborn baby, John Milton; her parents; her sister, Helen Ruth; her brother, Fred Gregory and his wife, Thora; her parents-in-law, Milton and Margaret Hess; and her brothers-in-law, Wallace and Maxwell Hess. She is survived by her husband, Milton J. and six children, Tad G. and his wife, Diana; Gerald E. and his wife, Carolyn; Stephen H. and his wife, Vickie; Christine Hale and her husband, Bruce; Anne Clark and her husband, Robert; and Paul W. and his wife, Martha; 38 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; also her brothers, Rulon, Legrande and Herold and their wives; a sister, Dorothy Killpack and husband; sisters-in-law, Claire Smith, Marjorie Hess, and Gloria Rice.
Besides being a wonderful, nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother, she dedicated her life to serving the Lord through numerous callings in the LDS Church, including the first mission 'Mom' in the Australia West Mission, 1968 - 1971, Ogden Temple Worker, and the first Matron of the Sydney Australia Temple, 1984 - 1987. She loved music and sang duets with her father and husband over the years and was ward organist for over 10 years and also served in many other church capacities, including Davis Stake Relief Society President.
The family wishes to express their appreciation and love to the nurses, aides and many concerned friends and family who have assisted and been of service to Fern over her long years of illness, with special thanks to Dr. Robert Clark and Dr. Michael Hess.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 20, 1999 at the Steed Creek Farmington Utah Stake Center, 347 South 200 West, Farmington, Utah. Friends and family may call on Thursday, August 19, 1999 at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, from 6 - 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral.
