On August 17, 1999, Irene C. Marit Stroud passed from the arms of her children and family to the arms of her Heavenly Father.Irene was born on April 23, 1906 in Litchfield, Illinois to Samuel F. Marit and Treacie E. White Marit, the third of six children.

Irene met her husband, Earl C. Stroud in Springfield, Illinois during the depression in 1934. She was working at the Leland Hotel from 5 a.m. to late evenings for $1.00 per day. They were married in Scranton, Penn., March 22, 1935 and moved to Salt Lake City, in 1952. Irene and Earl were within two days of celebrating their 31st wedding anniversary when Earl died.

Irene took great pride in making a home for her husband and two children, Sharon and Stanley. She made everyone feel welcome and there was always "room for one more" at her dinners every week for many years. Irene was an avid Bridge Player and loved her garden and flowers. Her talents in sewing and needlework have followed her through her life. She has spent countless hours crocheting for her family and friends. Her "quick wit," "gift of gab," and wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Sharon S. Stephenson (Gary), and son, Stanley S. Stroud (Glenda), grandchildren, Steven and Beti Stroud, Scott and Geri Sturzenegger, Teresa and Dan Tullis and Shane Stroud. Great-grandchildren, Jami Sue, Justin, Jami Lynn, Staci, Kourtney and Robert. Brothers, Dwight and Frank Marit and sister, Mildred Small.

Services will be held Sat., August 21. Viewing and friendship gathering 8:30-9:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 777 South 1300 East, SLC. Services 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Interment will be from 11 to 11:30 at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road.
