TOOELE (AP) -- A Washington venture capital firm completed its $250 million acquisition of EG&G Technical Services, the company announced Friday.
EG&G Defense Materials along with its parent, EG&G Technical Services, has been sold to The Carlyle Group. The Defense Materials division manages the Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility, the Army's chemical weapons incinerator in Utah.
Operations at the incinerator have not been affected by the change of ownership, said Michael J. Rowe, general manager for EG&G Defense Materials, Inc.
"Naturally, there are many administrative details which must be worked out, yet most of that will continue to be invisible to our workers and the rest of the community," said Rowe.
Under the purchase agreement, EG&G, Inc., based in Wellesley, Mass., will assume the name, Perkin Elmer -- that of an analytical instruments division acquired earlier this summer.
Legal issues surrounding the planned name switch are expected to be resolved within the next month.
EG&G is a technology company providing products and systems to medical, aerospace, telecommunications and other industries.
