Lonnie Johnathan Coombs, age 93, died August 20, 1999 in Salt Lake City.
Born December 28, 1905 in Durrant, Oklahoma to Thomas L. and Virginia Lee Wells Coombs. Lonnie was the last survivor of 15 children in his family. He, along with his brothers, had an all family baseball team that played and traveled throughout Oklahoma when he was young. Married LaVerne Stanley June 28, 1930. She died March 15, 1979. Member of Progress Lodge #22 F&AM and El Kalah Temple of the Shrine where he was a member of the Sunshine Committee. He bowled in the Shriner's League and loved to hunt and fish.Lonnie is survived by his son, Gary L. Coombs and his wife, Liliane Coombs; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Coombs, all of Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, where friends may call one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Intermountain Unit of Shriners Children's Hospital. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
