Cindy Steel Jenks, our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend returned to her Heavenly Father, August 1, 1999 after a courageous two-year battle with breast cancer.

Cindy was the oldest child born to James Merrill Steel and Corena Miller Steel on March 26, 1961 in Provo, Utah. Cindy graduated as Valedictorian from Logan High School in 1979. Thereafter she attended Brigham Young University. She studied abroad in Vienna, Austria and participated in the University's Washington Seminar. Cindy graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and was honored as Valedictorian of the BYU History Department. In April 1985, Cindy graduated Magna Cum Laude from J. Reuben Clark Law School. She was a member of the Order of the Coif and an editor of the Brigham Young University Law Review. Until her death, Cindy was serving in an Of Counsel position with LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene and MacRae law firm in Salt Lake City. She previously served as a law clerk for Judge Howard D. McKibben, U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, as well as for the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and for the Snell and Wilmer Law firm. Cindy loved to travel, venturing across the globe to Europe, Central and South America, the Middle East as well as nearly every state in the union.Cindy was politically active, serving in responsible positions with the Utah Republican Party. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed snow and water skiing, hiking, and outdoor sports. Cindy made life long friends after organizing her own championship flag football team while in law school.Cindy was sealed to her eternal companion, Peter H. Jenks, in the Salt Lake Temple on December 6, 1991 on a crisp, sunny day. They made their home along with treasured neighbors in Centerville, Utah. Throughout her life she lovingly and faithfully served her church in numerous callings. Cindy was an amazingly brilliant, compassionate, determined young woman who was loved and respected by all those who knew her. She will be missed beyond description.

Cindy is survived by her beloved husband, Peter, and their two cherished sons, Samuel (4) and Benjamin (3). She is also survived by her mother and father, Corena and James Steel (Provo); her sisters, Melinda Caldwell (Springville) and Heather Steel (Orem); and her brothers, Mark Steel (Redmond, Washington) and Merrill Steel (Provo); as well as her grandmother, Bessie Miller (Portland, Oregon); father and mother-in-law, Richard and Linda Jenks (Baraboo, Wisconsin); and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by a special great aunt, Dora, beloved grandparents, and her husband's mother, Dolores J. Jenks.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 1999 in the Centerville Third Ward Chapel, 900 South 400 East, Centerville, Utah. Friends may call between 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 4, 1999 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m at the church. Interment will be at the Centerville Cemetery.
