A Salt Lake woman will soon relocate to Namibia as head of Peace Corps operations in that African nation.
Judith A. Oki, 50, has been named country director of Namibia and will start work with 148 Peace Corps volunteers there in mid-August.Oki has a master's of education from Texas Southern University and a bachelor's degree in math from the University of Utah. She became a charter member of the Peace Corps staff in South Africa in 1996 and helped develop all aspects of the corps education programs in that country. She has also served with the Peace Corps in Botswana, Swaziland, West Africa, Monrovia and Liberia and she has worked at the Peace Corps training center in Washington, D.C.
In Namibia, Oki will organize workers to support the country's education, business and health programs. Namibia is one of 134 countries in which the Peace Corps has been active since its founding.
