A group of undergraduates from the University of Utah will spend their break between summer and fall semesters riding mountain bikes from Salt Lake City to the Pacific Ocean, near San Francisco.

Their 800-mile trip will raise money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.Thad Roberts of Syracuse, 22, a junior at the University of Utah, is planning the trek, set to start on Monday, Aug. 9, 7 a.m. He expects it will take 10 days to reach the Pacific Ocean and hopes to raise at least $10,000.

Also going with Roberts is his wife, Kaydee, and fellow students Ryan Sincic and Tristan Mahyera.

The bicyclists will follow I-80 most of the way and plan on averaging 80 miles per day. Donner Pass will be their greatest challenge.
