White Sox slugger Frank Thomas hit a solo homer into the left-field seats off Oakland starting pitcher Kevin Appier with one out in the sixth inning for his 300th career home run. Thomas becomes the 84th player in major league baseball history to record 300 home runs. He also becomes the fifth active player to record at least 300 homers, 1,000 RBI (1,031) and 1,000 walks (1,050). He joins players Barry Bonds, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire and Cal Ripken Jr.
