ST. GEORGE, UT--Our sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Mabel Terry Bryan, 95, slipped quietly away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in St. George, Utah Monday, September 13, 1999.

She was born April 12, 1904 the oldest child of Joseph Alma and Nancy Mae Holt Terry at Terry's Ranch in Washington County, Utah. Schooling was provided through eighth grade in Enterprise, after which she traveled to St. George to attend and graduate from Dixie High School. She attended BYU for one year and graduated from Dixie College Class of 1924. Mabel obtained a teaching certificate, and taught third and fourth grade at the Enterprise school and also substituted as a teacher in the Tooele School District. She married her eternal companion, Alex J. Bryan in the St. George LDS Temple, June 9, 1926 and shared 53 wonderful years together before his death November 1, 1979. They lived in Logan, Utah while attending college, then in St. John, Tooele County before settling in Tooele where they resided for over 30 years.

The Bryan home was always filled with music and Mabel gave many individuals their first start playing the piano. She loved to quilt, crochet and tat. She freely shared home-baked items with those in need. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and willingly shared her talents of teaching a class, as a leader, playing the piano

/organ or leading the singing in all of the church organizations. She fulfilled an LDS mission with her beloved companion to the Brisbane-Queensland, Australian Mission in 1966-1968. They moved to St. George in the fall of 1968 to take care of her aging father and continued to call it home for 30 years while giving hundreds of hours of service in the St. George LDS Temple, either as an ordinance worker or patron. Mabel was very proud of her heritage and helped to organize the Daughters of Utah Pioneer Band in St. George in 1975. She played the piano for this group of 6-8 white-haired ladies who played different instruments and performed at various programs for over 20 years. They also played at the care centers on Friday afternoons. Mabel deeply loved her parents, sister, brothers, husband, children, grandchildren and extended posterity, of whom she was so proud and always expressed her gratitude with words of encouragement, wisdom and love.

Missing her sweet smile, kind and gentle nature are her four daughters and their families: Byrdenne (Victor Glenn) Johnson of Orem, UT; Yvonne (Eldon) Gentry of St. George; VeNae (Shelton) Till of Everett, WA; Nancy (Richard N.) Kimball of Cedar City, UT; 32 grandchildren; 106 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters; two brothers: Maeser (Marilla) Terry of St. George; and Merrill (Leola) Terry of Enterprise, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother: Durward (Illa) Terry; sister: Hazel Hillman Ruth and a great- granddaughter, Heidi Peterson.
