Obituary: Vera Mae Thomas Penrod

Vera Mae Thomas Penrod, formerly of Sandy, passed away September 28, 1999, in Taylorsville, Utah. She was 85.

Vera was born on August 31, 1914 in Warren, Utah, to Rhoda Elizabeth East and Delbert Thomas. Vera grew up on the family farm and attended school in Warren. She married Marion H. Penrod on December 23, 1933 in Ogden, Utah. The family settled in Sandy, Utah, where Vera lived until 1992. Since then, she resided at the homes of her twin daughters until her death. Vera was a skilled seamstress, an excellent cook, a lifelong gardener, and an excellent storyteller. Vera was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by many.Vera is survived by seven children, Ardis Penrod of Kearns, UT; Arlene Hall of San Dimas, CA; Cheryl Bargar of Evanston, WY; Brent Penrod of Camden, SC; Lorae Stirling of Taylorsville, UT; Loraine Beyersdorf of West Jordan, UT; and Randy Penrod of Everett, WA; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Thomas of Warren, UT, and Duane Thomas of Plain City, UT; and one sister, Beth Fleming of Sunset, UT. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Marion; parents; two grandchildren; and four brothers, Gilbert, Ward, Joe and Roy.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, October 2, 1999 in the Sandy 2nd Ward Chapel, 8650 South 220 East. Friends may call Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, and at the church Saturday one hour prior to the services. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
