NEPHI-Alta Lavern Nielsen Kay passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2000, the day after celebrating her 88th birthday with her family.
She was born January 11, 1912 in Nephi, Utah to Samuel P. and Sarah Painter Nielsen. She married Newton Ernest Kay August 14, 1930 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions in Primary, Sunday School, and Relief Society. She loved flowers, gardening, and doing things with her family.She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Newton Kay; four children, Clyde (Darlene) Kay; Karen (Boyd) Mickel; Rex Kay; Reva (John) Maughan; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2000 in the Nephi LDS 1st Ward, 222 South 100 East. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
