Howard James "Jim" Clegg Jr. passed away of a heart attack on Saturday afternoon, January 15, 2000, while herding cows on one of his favorite horses with his brother Bruce, his wife Joy and his beloved nieces and nephews.

He raised his children in the ranching tradition and instilled in them a strong work ethic and a passion for that life. They will continue the ranching tradition.Born April 21, 1939 to Zella and Howard Clegg, he enjoyed growing up in the close knit community of Tooele among family and friends. Jim served an LDS mission in Brazil. He attended Utah State University and later graduated from the University of Utah Law School in 1966. Jim married Susan Burdett on September 11, 1964 and had four children together. They later divorced, and then on June 7, 1990 he married Joy Lynn Sanders.

Aside from his family, his greatest accomplishment, he was a shareholder in the law firm Snow, Christensen & Martineau where he practiced law for 33 years. He was an officer of the firm, and served on the firm board of directors. He also served as president of the Salt Lake County Bar, president of the Utah State Bar, trustee of the Utah Bar Foundation and the state chair of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Jim is preceded in death by his good friends Harold and Bob, his favorite horse "Elvis" and his best dog "Fuzzy".

He is survived by his parents; wife, Joy; and his children, Lane B. Clegg (Robin), Janielle Knox (Aaron), Ryan J. Clegg (Jennifer), and Chantelle Clegg. He was a loving and patient grandfather to Tristan "TR", Sawyer, and Cameron, whom he took on many horse and buggy rides. He was enjoying his role as "Grampa Jim".
