Kris Hylton stood at the free-throw line with the suffocating pressure and deafening noise. The Wasatch senior guard knew she needed to make at least one of her two free throws or the game would be over and her team the loser.

She missed the first.

The Judge Memorial crowd went wild. She just smiled at her coach. Then she took the ball and looked at the rim — the same rim that had just deflected her last shot.

"I figured I could tie it up," she said. "I just think about how many times I've made that shot. I had a lot of confidence in myself."

And justifiably so. She made that shot and sent the game between the two 3-A schools into the first of two overtimes. It would be free-throw shooting that would win the game for Wasatch High, 61-54, which is now 10-5 overall.

The game, which Judge led by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter, ended with each team at 46. After four minutes of overtime, most of which Wasatch stalled, each team had scored just 3 more points.

A Judge player was fouled attempting an offensive rebound, but officials ruled time had run out on the clock and sent the game into it's second overtime. It might not have made a difference as Judge was just 9-23 from the free-throw line Tuesday night.

In the second overtime, each team scored more, but most of Judge's starting lineup was on the bench after fouling out. Still, Judge kept the pressure on, and it wasn't clear who'd win the game until the buzzer ended it. Wasatch came out on top, due mostly to free-throw shooting.

"We just stopped being aggressive (when we were ahead) on offense and defense," said Judge coach Mary Chris Yerkovich. "We just let up a little."

And that was enough for Wasatch to catch them.

"Our kids are intense and tough. In all honesty, if a couple of calls had gone their way at the end, things might have turned out different," said Wasatch coach Roger Pyper.

Judge will get a chance at revenge in two weeks when the teams play again at Wasatch High.
