LAS VEGAS (Reuters) -- French-Canadian pop singer Celine Dion on Wednesday renewed her wedding vows with her ailing husband-manager Rene Angelil just days after bowing out of the music business for two years to spend more time with him.

A spokesman for the 31-year-old diva said a simple private ceremony took place at Caesar's Palace Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon.Dion, whose rendering of the theme song from the movie "Titanic" propelled her to international stardom, gave her final public performance on Dec. 31 in Montreal.

She announced last year she would be taking a break of at least two years to focus on life with her 56-year-old husband, who underwent surgery for skin cancer last April. The couple, who married in a celebrity wedding in Montreal in December 1994, are hoping to have a child.

"It is a way to mark the start of her time out," the spokesman said.

Angelil has managed Dion's career since she was a local teen singing sensation in the rural Canadian town of Charlemagne near Montreal.

The spokesman could not say why the couple, who have homes in Florida and French-speaking Quebec, had decided on Las Vegas as the place to renew their wedding vows.
