Jean Tenny Gray died on Oct. 19, 2000 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born January 31, 1914 in Fredrick MD., the daughter of Clarence Arthur and Olive Smith Tenney. Jean grew up in Clear Spring, MD, graduated from Hagerstown High School and William and Mary College; and earned an MS degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Using bows and arrows crafted by her father, Jean was Women's National Archery Champion in 1937 and 1938. She was named "Maryland Ideal Outdoor Girl" in 1939 and was inducted into the American Archer Hall of Fame.
In 1945, Jean married Clinton W. Gray. With their two children, they lived in Mexico, Bolivia, Colombia, and Lincoln NE. before settling in Alexandria, VA. Jean moved to Salt Lake City in 1986 to live near her daughter and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband and her son Richard Tenney Gray, Jean is survived by her sister Katherine Hanna of Coatesville PA., her daughter Betty Jean (B.J) and son in-law- Tom Aldrich and grandchildren Emily and Chris Aldrich, all of Salt Lake.
She will be buried at St. Paul's Church in Clear Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assn.
