Following is a list of pre-Olympic test and training events and other Olympic-type competitions scheduled for Utah during the 2000-01 winter season.
Oct. 27-29 — SHORT-TRACK SPEEDSKATING: World Cup
At the Peaks Ice Arena in Provo, short-track returns to Provo for the second straight year, with 108 skaters representing more than a dozen nations.
Nov. 5-10 — ICE HOCKEY: Five Nations Cup
At the E Center in West Valley City, the round-robin junior men's tournament features the United States, Russia, Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic.
Nov. 7-11 — ICE HOCKEY: Four Nations Cup
At the Peaks Ice Arena in Provo will be four of the top five teams from the 1998 Nagano Games are coming to the Peaks Ice Arena in Provo: the United States (gold), Canada (silver), Finland (bronze) and Sweden (fifth).
Nov. 16-19 — ALPINE SKIING: America's Opening World Cup
At Park City Mountain Resort, back after last year's lack-of-snow cancellation, the America's Opening has been a World Cup fixture at Park City for more than a decade.
Nov. 20-21 — ALPINE SKIING: Men's Super Series
At Park City Mountain Resort, the Super Series circuit brings together an international field just shy of top-flight World Cup alpine competition.
Nov. 28 - Dec. 3 — BOBSLED: America's Cup
At Utah Olympic Park, not quite the World Cup class, the America's Cup still provides bobsled competition with a strong international flavor.
Dec. 10-11 — NORDIC COMBINED: World Cup Class B
At Utah Olympic Park and Soldier Hollow, this event — which combines ski jumping and cross-country skiing — draws on jumpers looking to break onto the World Cup scene.
Jan. 1-7 — BOBSLED/SKELETON: U.S. Nationals
At Utah Olympic Park, America's best sliders take to the track in the two sports that share the same international federation and national governing body.
Jan. 6-7 — FREESTYLE SKIING: World Cup
At Deer Valley Resort, freestyle has found an annual World Cup stop. Deer Valley has become a favorite among aerialists and moguls specialists alike.
Jan. 6-7 — SPEEDSKATING: U.S. Nationals
At Utah Olympic Oval, this event is listed as tentatively for Salt Lake City. A final decision will be made next month on the oval's status and availability.
Jan. 11-14 — CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: World Cup
At Soldier Hollow, after last year's national championships at the 2002 Olympic course, the world gets its first look at the acclaimed new course.
Jan. 19-21 — NORDIC COMBINED: World Cup
At Utah Olympic Park and Solider Hollow, this event will share the same weekend — and in part, the same Utah Olympic Park jumping slopes — with ski jumping.
Jan. 19-21 — SKI JUMPING: World Cup
At Utah Olympic Park, the doubling up of World Cup ski jumping and nordic combined events allows SLOC to duplicate some of its Games event schedule that allows for the two sports to overlap in 2002.
Feb. 5-11 — LUGE: World Cup
At Utah Olympic Park, international luge competition debuts in Utah as part of a three-stop North American conclusion to the 2000-01 schedule.
Feb. 7-10 — FIGURE SKATING: Four Continents Championship
At the Delta Center, look for most of the big-name stars to come to Salt Lake for one of figure skating's major international competitions annually.
Feb. 10-12 — ALPINE SKIING: North American Cup
At Snowbasin Ski Area, the NorAm men — who are World Cup wannabes — will get to cut their teeth on the Olympic downhill and Super G courses.
Feb. 16 — BOBSLED: World Cup
At Utah Olympic Park, the world's best female bobsledders get sole spotlight as they take the track for the day.
Feb. 17 — SKELETON: World Cup
At Utah Olympic Park, World Cup skeleton will be a pre-Olympic offering of the sport, which returns to the Winter Games in 2002 after a 54-year absence.
Feb. 24-25 — BOBSLED: World Cup
At Utah Olympic Park, men's two- and four-man bobsled at the Olympic Park track conclude a three-week slew of World Cup sliding events in Park City.
Feb. 24-25 — ALPINE SKIING: World Cup
At Snowbasin Ski Area, watch the men's alpine stars come out en masse at Snowbasin as the world's best test the Olympic downhill and Super G courses.
Feb. 28 - March 3 — BIATHLON: World Cup
At Soldier Hollow, a year after hosting the national championships, the Wasatch County venue welcomes the top international biathletes.
March 1-4 — DISABLED ALPINE SKIING: World Cup
At Snowbasin Ski Area, in a Paralympic test event, the World Cup brings an international field of disabled alpine skiers to Utah.
March 2-4 — SNOWBOARDING: World Cup
At Park City Mountain Resort, World Cup snowboarding returns again to Park City, with both Olympic-style giant slalom and halfpipe competition planned.
March 3-4 — LUGE: U.S. Nationals
At Utah Olympic Oval, consider it luge American-style as the U.S. sliders head back to Park City for the nationals.
March 7-11 — DISABLED CROSS COUNTRY: World Cup
At Soldier Hollow, disabled nordic skiers get their shot in a Paralympics test event as another World Cup competition makes its way to Midway.
March 9-11 — SPEEDSKATING: World Championships
At Utah Olympic Oval, in events featuring the Olympic distances, all the expected Olympic fields will gather for the single-distance finals in Kearns.
March 15-25 — CURLING: Jr. World Championships
At the Ice Sheet at Ogden, after hosting the national championships last year, Ogden plays host to a younger, yet international, collection of teams.
March 17-18 — ALPINE SKIING: North American Cup
At Snowbasin Ski Area, the aspiring female alpine skiers take their turn on the women's downhill and Super G runs at Snowbasin.
March 23-25 — SKI JUMPING: U.S. Championships
At Utah Olympic Park, The Americans go airborne in late-season national finals.
March 23-25 — NORDIC COMBINED: U.S. Championships
At Utah Olympic Park and Solider Hollow, U.S. athletes wind down their 2000-01 season with a home meet at the Olympic venues.
March 30-31 — ALPINE SKIING: Super Series Finals
At Deer Valley Resort, the men close their season with two days of slalom competition.
