LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors dropped extortion charges Tuesday against two men: the former husband and the ex-boyfriend of Erin Brockovich, the crusading legal assistant whose fight against a powerful utility was the basis of a hit film.
Charges remained in effect against Los Angeles attorney John Jeffrey Reiner, 53, who is accused of trying to extort $310,000 from Brockovich and her boss, lawyer Ed Masry.
The three were arrested in April after a sting operation.

Prosecutor Michael Frawley refused to say why charges were dropped against Shawn Brown, 38, of Simi Valley, Calif.,Brockovich's former husband, and Jorg Halaby, 46, of Costa Mesa, Calif., her former boyfriend.
