PROVO — Ancestry.com,part of MyFamily.com Inc. has announced the availability of the U.S. federal census online subscription through its proprietary Images Online service.

Ancestry.com is posting electronic images of every record from the census between the years 1790 and 1920, including its own reconstructed 1890 census substitute. Digitized in 256 shades of gray, the new subscription area will offer more than 10.5 million pages that contain more than 450 million records. Indexes will allow searches by either geography or head of household. Annual subscriptions to the service are being offered to current Ancestry.com subscribers for $29.95 as an introductory offer for the first month. Following the introductory offer, census subscriptions will be $39.95 a year for Ancestry.com subscribers. Non-Ancestry.com subscribers may purchase it for $59.95 a year or $19.95 for three months. Census-only subscribers may add an Ancestry.com subscription later for an additional $39.95 per year.

Prior to the online offering, the documents had traditionally been available only on microfilm and in limited archives and libraries throughout the nation.
