Benjamine Thomas (Tom) Lewis, age 70, of Pleasant Grove, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2000 in American Fork, Utah after a prolonged illness.

He was born February 28, 1930 in Bessemer, Alabama to Joseph Bloxom and Mildred Burdeshaw Lewis.

He married Joan Silva December 31, 1960 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Tom grew up in North Carolina and Virginia. He graduated from Warwick High School in Newport News,

Virginia. He then attended Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock Apprentice School and the University of Virginia, majoring in civil engineering. He served 2 years with the Coast & Geodetic Survey off the coast of Maine. The remainder of his career was in commercial construction and civil engineering. He had a love for gardening and painting, and remembered fondly his life on and near the ocean. Tom and Joan moved to Utah in 1968 after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many capacities.

He is survived by his wife Joan of Pleasant Grove; his brother, Robert G. (Muriel Turner) Lewis, Yorktown Virginia and seven children: Margaret Warden, Phoenix; Elvin (Jennifer) Lewis, Troy, Maine; J. Brian (Trudi Silcox) Lewis, American Fork; B. Paul Lewis, Salt Lake; Thomas (Cassy Bone) Lewis, Orem; Stephen (Sariah Swenson) Lewis, Lehi; Phil Lewis, Pleasant Grove; and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday,

November 13, 2000 at 2 p.m. in the Battle Creek Seventh Ward Chapel, 1250 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Sunday evening at the church from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.
